Those persons living within the city limits of Kokomo may apply for a handgun permit on the second floor of the city building at the Police Department records desk between the hours of 8am and 4pm. If you live outside the city limits you need to apply at the Howard County Criminal Justice Center.

All applicants for an unlimited handgun license must meet the requirements as set out in Indiana Code 35-47-1. Some reasons for non-approval of a handgun license are as follows:

• Alcohol Abuse
• Drug Abuse
• A Felony Conviction
• Violent or Emotionally Unstable Conduct
• A Conviction for Resisting Law Enforcement

• A letter from the applicant stating why an unlimited license is needed.
• A postal money order or certified check for fifteen dollars($15.00) payable to the State of Indiana.
• A postal money order, certified or cashier's check or cash payable to the Kokomo Police Department for ten dollars($10.00).

NOTE - In the event of non-approval by this department you have two options:

• Withdraw your application and recieve a five dollar ($5.00) refund of the local charges plus the fifteen dollar ($15.00) check.
• Take no action and the application will be marked "NOT APPROVED" and forwarded to the Indiana State Police for their consideration.
If your application is not approved by this agency, you will be notified within ten (10) days of submission.
