Dunbar Center

Dunbar Service Center
Camp Wildwood

Located at the entrance of Camp Wildwood, the Dunbar Service Center is the staff offices, limited program supply sales and storage of program equipment. The multipurpose room, kitchenette, bathrooms (there are not showers or bath-tubs), in the walkout basement, are available for troop/group activities.

Camp Wildwood is 35+ acres of young forest with a platform tent camping area, and a large "Green Pavilion". Trails lace the rolling terrain. It is serviced by local police, fire and utility departments and has on-site housing for maintenance/security staff. The Green Pavilion is an approximately 30' x 50' screened, wood-framed building with concrete floor available for meetings and program activities. It has electricity, but no heat or plumbing, however hose outlets are available in its vicinity for access to water. There is also a 20' x 25' shelter house available on the Camp Wildwood premises.

The city park area is accessible for activities by reservation with and permission from the city of Kokomo Parks Department.

Use of Council-owned Sites

Requests for use must be submitted in writing, on appropriate forms, in advance to the property manager at the main office in Logansport. Arrival and departure times must be part of the request so the on-site maintenance/security staff can make check-in and check-out arrangements. Such arrangements will be part of the confirmation process. The availability of a facility including any equipment requested and scheduling will be confirmed by telephone, or by mail if staff is unable to make a telephone connection.

Damage deposits are required and must be paid in advance. (Requests by outside groups and for personal use by current members require advance payment of fees in addition to any required deposits and are subject both to availability and to suitability of intended usage.) Cleanliness, damages and timeliness of arrival/departure ($5/hr) may affect amount of deposit refunded.

Girl Scouts and all visitors are expected to leave equipment/site in good shape for the next use. Damage deposits may be retained if excessive cleaning or repair is needed after usage.

Use of Sites Other than Council-owned for Girl Scout Program

Selection of sites other than council-owned property for Girl Scout program should follow recommendations and guidelines found in the current issue of the GSUSA publication, Safety-Wise, and other property-related or program-related GSUSA monographs.

Proof of insurance is usually required by owners from the council's insurer. Advance notice must be received by the council office on the site-owner's behalf, made by the potential user. Proof can be mailed or faxed direct to the site owner.
